All-wheel drive between motor sports and hybrid drive

The coming 6th All-Wheel Drive Congress Graz will look at two areas which have always been connected with all-wheel drive but about whose systems and development very little has been known.

Motor sports – hybrid drive

Motor sports are in many areas the driving force of particular achievements and have had a ver y positive influence on volume-production development. In some types of motor sports, such as the extreme motor rally, all-wheel drive is indispensable for winning. How far can a volume-produced system live up to all the expectations of hard-core sports use? Is it purely a matter of different stresses or are the demands of driving dynamics important? The following questions can equally be raised: Do motor sports positively influence the main demands on high-volume production of all-wheel drive systems, such as costs, efficiency and weight reduction? Considering the respective requirements in motor sports and high-volume production for the standard customer, is all-wheel drive developing in the same direction or in diametrically opposing ones? Are competitions in the desert, on ice and snow exemplary for the standard customer?

These and similar questions will be discussed in a panel discussion by noted experts in development, sports and the press.

Hybrid drive is struggling with the problems of high weight and high costs. Advantages, such as reduction in consumption and exhaust emissions, hardly justify the still ver y high selling price. Among these vehicles, all-wheel drive systems are available at a proportionally lower additional price. Which systems are appropriate? Does the possibility of electric drive offer advantages for all-wheel drive and where are the fields of synergy?

Aspects of these extreme positions as well as the latest all-wheel drive technology will be addressed at the congress, demonstrated in interesting talks, analyzed and discussed.

Take advantage of the opportunity to extend your specific specialist knowledge and find partners for solutions. Practical demonstrations on the test track on Friday will again give you the chance to experience for yourself ever ything you have heard, and above all to provide ideas for discussion.
