From concept to volume production readiness

Higher quality demands despite faster product development process

The main topic of the 7th Graz All-Wheel Drive Congress is "From concept to volume production readiness" under the aspect of higher quality demands despite faster product development process.

As market trends indicate sustained demand for more vehicle variants and niche products, this will become even more of an issue in the future. And if we are to meet these constantly growing demands, we will have to find new solutions throughout the entire product development process.

Not only will developers and manufacturers have to respond with high flexibility and modularity, but also raise the general quality standards. Given its concept-related complexity and niche presence, the all-wheel drive vehicle sector will have to satisfy special requirements here.

In the luxury segment, the key criteria for purchasing are quality, reliability and the vehicle's appearance. Both manufacturers and customers worldwide tend to use quality reports, breakdown statistics and car magazines as their sources of information.

On the first day of the event, well-known experts will discuss the apparent contradiction between faster times to market and higher quality demands at a plenary session. Afterwards, new all-wheel drive vehicles like the Audi Q7 and Toyota RAV 4 will again be presented this year both at the venue and on the test track the following day.

The second day will kick off with two forums focusing on handling, development tools and components. While the complete vehicle's appearance also appeals to the customer at an emotional level, functions remain hidden, at least initially. Great importance will have to be attached to the use of quality promoting and assuring measures during the product development process to ensure that the manufacturing process remains smooth and profitable. This will also pose a considerable challenge to simulation in engineering and production planning.

At the plenary session the quality demands for development and production will be shown using concrete examples. This concludes the series of papers at the 2006 All-Wheel Drive Congress.

As usual, the program will also include demonstrations at the test track and optional guided tours of the plant.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Congress at Graz's Stadthalle.
