MAGNA Drivetrain AG & Co KG’s merger with Tesma International Inc. and the Steyr Engineering Center created the new Magna Powertrain Group in 2005. A year earlier, in 2004, MAGNA Drivetrain had acquired a majority share in one of its largest rivals in the all-wheel drive sector, New Venture Gear (NVG). In less than two years, a local company employing 1,500 people had thus become an 11,000-employee-strong Magna Group with eight times the annual sales.

The Powertrain Group is now one of the world’s leading automotive suppliers with the following product portfolio:
- Drivetrain components and systems
- Engines & engine components
- Axle & chassis modules
Our services range from design through the entire product development process to volume production.

The result is a combination of comprehensive product know-how and advanced technology. This has helped to make Magna Powertrain even more competitive in a field that ranks among the fastest growing in the automotive industry.

With the Engineering Center in Steyr, the Magna Powertrain Group has enhanced its capabilities in the areas of engine, commercial vehicle and software development as well as simulation and testing.

A complete range of transfer cases secures the Group’s global market leadership in the AWD sector.

In engine components, the newly formed Magna Powertrain Group has also gained a leading position on the global market.
  • 10 million flexplates shipped a year correspond to a global market share of well over 30%
(flexplate or driver disk: flexible connection between the crankshaft and flywheel, sometimes also with starter ring)
  • 4 million water pumps and 3 million oil pumps also make Magna Powertrain an important global player in this segment
  • With 1 million front covers annually, the newly created Group is also aiming for global market leadership in this product segment

The new Magna Powertrain Group currently employs around 11,000 people at five engineering centers, 34 manufacturing divisions and sales/engineering offices in Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul.
